Program Description
Cardona Castle is a medieval fortress in Catalonia, with a history dating back to 886. Perched on a hilltop, it offers panoramic views of the Pyrenees, Montserrat and the surrounding valleys. During a guided tour, you'll step back in time to the days of knights, castle legends and life behind imposing stone walls.
As you explore the castle grounds, you'll come across Romanesque and Gothic architectural features that reflect centuries of expansion and renovation. A highlight of the tour is Minyona Tower, linked to the legend of a young woman named Adalés. According to the story, her parents imprisoned her because of a forbidden romance. Your guide will share her tale along with fascinating stories from the fortress's past.
The tour also includes the Church of Sant Vicenç, built in 1040 on the site of an earlier castle chapel. The church is an example of Catalan Lombard Romanesque architecture. Beneath its presbytery lies a historic crypt known as the Chapel of the Relics.
As you wander through the castle grounds, you'll also have the opportunity to admire Catalonia's mountain scenery and enjoy the surrounding landscape from the viewpoint of a medieval stronghold.
